Be Part of the Solution!
Give the Gift of Reading This Literacy Day

Nelson Mandella

Mark your calendars… 2014 will be THE year it all changed!

I refuse to stand by watch this get worse. Negative literacy rates have hit epidemic highs. So why not be an agent for change? Give the gift of literacy and reading this year… one book at a time we can change the world.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”  Nelson Mandela.  Let’s continue Mandela’s vision.

Our world is a better place because of Nelson Mandela. Forgiveness. Hope. Acceptance. Peace. Community. Empowerment. Literacy. A few of the many global changes that Nelson Mandela inspired.

Literacy is not just about the ability to read and write. It is also about having the skills to understand what you read, communicate with others and engage fully and confidently in life’s activities and opportunities – at work, at home and in the community. (ABC Life Literacy).

Nelson Mandela lived and left a legacy of literacy.

The Mandela libraries project began in 2011 with the goal of bridging the gap in literacy and reading proficiency in schools throughout South Africa by bringing libraries to schools without reading facilities. And, Mandela Day was established to inspire a global call to action for individuals and organizations to volunteer 67 minutes of their time to public service—one minute for each year of the revered South African leader’s own remarkable service to humanity, every July 18.

YOU can make a difference, and here’s how:

Now, more than ever, is a great time to examine how each of us can make a difference in the lives of underprivileged children. Family Literacy Day is a national awareness initiative created by ABC Life Literacy Canada held annually on January 27 to raise awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family.  Taking time everyday to read or do a learning activity with children is crucial to a child’s development.

You can be part of the solution… part of the change.

The EBC has created a program to allow people to purchase donate books that are being offered at production costs. Just imagine the difference we can make when we work together to help solve this serious issue.

Here’s how you can give the gift of reading to these children in need today:

Step 1: Scroll down below and select from the list of books that are available.
Step 2: Decide how many books you want to purchase. (Min. Qty is 5 books)
Step 3: Select the book or books by adding to the shopping cart.
Step 4: Pay for the books
Step 5: The children’s authors will donate the books to children’s organizations in your name or the list of names you provide.

“If not me, who? And if not now, when?”
Hillel the Elder (110-10 BC)
